Academics

Yes, we have a ton of fun at Wild Roots and value our time outside, but structured academic time is also a top priority at our school!

Learning at Wild Roots:

  • Small teacher to student ratio- our maximum learning group size is 8:1, and this is something we will prioritize as we continue to grow and expand our program.

  • Progress and growth- We do not place students in specific grade levels based on their age. We place them in the appropriate learning group that meets their needs. Not only does this facilitate an individualized learning experience, students are able to grow at their own pace.

  • Assessments- We do beginning, middle, and end of the year assessments to track overall student growth. We’re also regularly monitoring student progress and struggles during our daily instruction time. Our small groups and close relationships with students allow us to know where to provide additional support when they need it.

  • Fall and Spring Conferences- We meet with families in the fall and spring to discuss how their child is doing at Wild Roots.

  • Our curriculum follows an appropriate Scope & Sequence that matches state level standards.

  • We do not do any state testing at Wild Roots. Our part-time students are considered “homeschooled”, and our full-time students will register as “private school” students, which means our school can decide if that’s something we want to participate in.

  • Paper/Pencil- Our students do not use personal tablets, computers, or devices at school. Research shows a strong correlation between academic growth and paper/pencil learning. We’ve loved watching our students develop a love for learning without technology, and we’ve seen a tremendous amount of handwriting development taking place.

Curriculum:

  • Language Arts & Math- for the 2025/2026 school year, we used The Good & The Beautiful workbooks. We found them engaging, standards-based, and appreciate that it has multiple components of integrated learning where a variety of subjects are weaved together. This curriculum is faith-based, and since we are a secular school, we simply omit the portions that talk about faith. As we add additional teachers to our staff, we are open to exploring a different curriculum if our team wants to shift.

  • UFLI- Our phonics program is phenomenal and one we will continue to use in the future.
