A Day at Wild Roots:
Hours: 8:30am-2:30pm
Our curriculum is designed to be taught 4 days a week (M-Th.). Fridays are focused on extending learning or student-led learning projects.
Our daily schedule provides a balance between outdoor, unstructured free play and rigorous academic instruction across all core subject areas.
8:30-9:30 - Outdoor free play (rain or shine!)
9:30-10:00 - Transition inside, snack
10:00-12:00 - Core academic instruction in small groups (Math; ELA; phonics)
12:00-12:30 - Lunch
12:30-1:30 - Science/Social Studies/Collaborative Free Play
1:30-2:30 - Outdoor free play
Our Approach:
Outside Everyday
Starting and ending the day outside helps children develop resilience, adaptability, and a strong connection to the natural world. Outdoor play encourages movement, creativity, and problem solving, all essential for healthy cognitive and social development. Experiencing all kinds of weather fosters a sense of wonder and builds comfort with the unpredictability of nature. Most importantly, it grounds children in rhythm and routine, creating a calm and joyful transition into and out of the school day. We also jam out to awesome music and have a ton of fun!
Small Class Sizes
With limited enrollment, our low student-to-teacher ratio allows for more personalized attention, deeper relationships, and individualized support that helps each child thrive. For the 2026/2027 school year, we are enrolling Young Fives-4th Grade. All of our students will spend time together outside and then separate in their appropriate learning groups for core instruction. We hope to have a 7:1 student/teacher ratio for each level.
Our Learning Space For the 2025/2026 school year, Wild Roots has been renting an amazing space in Stevensville, MI. Sitting on almost an acre of open and wooded outdoor space, we have the freedom to explore. The indoor space has access to a main classroom, small group classrooms, kitchen, and boys & girls bathrooms. Our plans for the 2026/2027 school year are in the works with the hopes that we will continue renting and start saving in order to purchase a permanent building.
Scheduling Options:
Full-time (4 days)
Academics are taught Monday-Thursday.
Wild Roots will provide a full academic curriculum- math, language arts (writing, reading) phonics, science, and social studies.
Part-time (2 days)
Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday.
An ideal balance for homeschooling families- parents will be responsible for providing their child’s academics at home and Wild Roots will be an “added bonus” for learning opportunities. We’ve heard feedback from current families this is a nice balance for their children to have a consistent community of peers to play with, and also time for parents to refuel.
Friday enrichment
Fridays are open for flexible learning opportunities and field trips. This year we have rotated between art and baking, and even taken a trip to the grocery store where students learned how to read a grocery list, purchase appropriate materials, and return to our kitchen to bake the item that day. We love hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
This is also available for students that just want to attend one day at Wild Roots.
