Is Wild Roots a good fit for your family?

We are so thrilled to live in a community with so many options for school success. Wild Roots is a unique learning environment and we want to do our best to make sure it is a good fit on both ends. A few questions to explore before attending our open house:

  1. Are you willing and able to invest in high-quality outdoor gear for your child? We spend a portion of our day outside, every single day and it is necessary for your child’s safety for them to be properly covered for the weather. If purchasing new items, we would say an average price for quality winter boots is $70; rainboots $25; winter coat and snow pants $75-$200; and rain gear $60-$100. We send out a list of brands and products that we recommend and are always available to answer any questions.

  2. Are you comfortable picking up your child with dirty, wet, muddy gear and spending the time to clean it most evenings? We recommend having a designated space in your trunk to gather wet items.

  3. Is your child typically able to handle the independence and freedom to explore outside? Our school is spread out on more than three acres and we allow students the opportunity to move around our space. Teachers are always around and monitoring students, but not always in close proximity. We encourage parents to discuss if this sounds like a setup where their child can be successful, or if they need more structure and adult guidance to meet classroom and behavior expectations.

Application and Registration Process

Our application process for Wild Roots is outlined below:

Open House- it is required that all families interested in attending Wild Roots attend an open house or schedule a classroom tour. Our next open house is Thursday, June 25th from 4-6pm.

Request and submit an application. After an open house/classroom tour is completed, families can request an application by emailing miwildroots@gmail.com.

All applications will be reviewed and families will be notified either way if they are accepted or not accepted into the Wild Roots program. Enrollment will be dependent on availability and space for that particular age and if it is a good fit on both ends.

Registration: If your family chooses to accept the invitation to attend Wild Roots, a $150 non-refundable registration fee is required in order to reserve your space in our program.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • For the 2026/2027 school year, we have used “The Good & The Beautiful” for our core math and language arts curriculum, although our educators frequently put their own spin on lessons and incorporate their own materials. We are actively researching new curriculums for next year. We have also used UFLI for phonics and LOVED this program.

  • No, Wild Roots is not a religious program. We do have students from all walks of life (some religious, some not), but we do not incorporate religion into our school day.

  • Our school feels like one big family, and that’s exactly the way we want it! We are intentional about keeping our classrooms small in order to build relationships with each family.

  • No, families are responsible for sending their child to school with a morning snack and a lunch. We have found this to be easier with food allergies and meal preferences. We have a microwave available to heat items if necessary.

  • The first day of school will be August 31st, 2026. The last day of school will be May 28, 2027.

We closely follow the public schools for Thanksgiving, Winter break and Spring break.

We do not have half days off school.

We also follow Lakeshore Public Schools for winter closures.
